Where can I find the requirement for a certificate?

The requirement for a certificate can be found in the safety regulations for hot works in your insurance contract.

Is there a requirement for a certificate in Norwegian legislation?

No, there is no requirement for a certificate in Norwegian laws or regulations. The requirement for a certificate is found in the safety regulations for hot works, which are part of the non-life insurance agreement between a policyholder and the insurance company.

What can happen if I don't have a certificate?

If there is a connection between an injury and a breach of the safety regulations, you risk the insurance company rejecting payment of compensation in whole or in part.

Hot work carried out in a casual workplace without a certificate is a breach of the safety regulations. 

Certain employers will be able to reject you at the workplace if you cannot document that you have a valid certificate.

Is a certificate from another country accepted in Norway?

Certificates from Sweden, Denmark and Finland are approved in Norway. 

Denmark has two types of certificates for carrying out hot work. One for roofing and one for warm works with the exception of roofing. 

It is important to be aware that it is always the Norwegian rules and Norwegian safety regulations that apply in Norway

What does the certification course in hot works consist of?

The certification course includes theoretical training, practical extinguishing exercises and a final written exam.

What is a safety regulation?

A safety regulation is an order in the insurance terms that the insured must take certain measures to prevent damage or that the insured must in some cases have certain qualifications or certificates

What is Hot Work?

In connection with certificate requirements, hot work is understood as work where machines and equipment are used that generate sparks and heat that can lead to fire.

Hot work includes the use of open flame, hot air, welding, cutting and/or grinding equipment.

How long is a certificate in hot works valid?

The certificate is valid for five years.

How long does a physical course in hot work last?

The duration of the course is a minimum of 7.5 hours. This includes theoretical teaching, extinguishing exercises, exams and breaks

When is a certificate required?

Persons who use machines and equipment in accordance with the definitions of hot work in all environments where there is a risk that fire may occur must have a valid certificate from the Norwegian Fire Protection Association or cooperating organization in other Nordic countries​

Is there always a requirement for a certificate when carrying out hot work?

No, the exception is hot work that is carried out in specially arranged rooms as part of the daily business. The room must be separated from other activities as a separate fire cell.

My certificate has expired, but I will renew it later. Can I do hot work in the meantime?

No. If your certificate has expired, you cannot carry out hot work until you have undergone and been approved for a new course in hot work.

How do I pay for courses?

When you have ordered a course with us, you will receive an order confirmation of your order from our administration as well as an invoice for your order. 

How many exam attempts do you get on the online course?

You get 3 exam attempts. If you fail all 3 exams, the course must be purchased and started again
